During the fall, the changing leaves can be a beautiful sight. Did you know that these same leaves can also be a road danger? Learn more about this and other autumn road dangers in this post.

Be on the Lookout for These Autumn Road Changes

During the fall, the roads may be looking beautiful, but how does this affect you? In reality, the weather changes this season can lead to quite a few differences out on the road that you should prepare for. To help you make it through this season safely, use these tips while you're driving.

Colder Temperatures

It's no secret that during the autumn months, outdoor temperatures will begin to drop. The difference may not be significant at first, but through the weeks you may really start to really feel it. Your tires will also start to feel the impact of the colder temperatures. This is because as the weather gets colder, your tires will start to lose air pressure. Because of this, it's recommended that you check on your tire pressure often just to be sure your tires are at the correct pressure.

Slick Roads

Along with the cold, you may also notice that the roads are more slippery than during the summer. Even if you still haven't had any rainstorms, even a light drizzle can lead to slippery roads. This is because all of the oil that has accumulated on the roads during the summer months will be picked up during the first rainy days of the season, making the roads slick. Even if it isn't raining hard, it's a good idea to slow down. On top of this, because temperatures will be cold in the morning, you will want to look out for black ice which can be common in areas of high moisture.

Autumn Leaves

Watching the leaves change colors is one of the many beautiful things associated with fall. However, these beautiful leaves can pose a serious risk to drivers. Leaves may accumulate on the road and seem harmless. Driving over a pile of leaves, however, can lead to some car troubles. You never know what may be hiding underneath these leaves, like a pothole, so you're better off not driving over them. When it rains and the leaves get wet, they can become super slick, causing your tires to lose traction. To keep your car running well this autumn, give it a synthetic oil change in Minneapolis. Use an oil like AMSOIL's Signature Series 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil to keep your car's engine performing at its best. Driving in the Dark

Daylight hours are fewer during the fall months, which means you'll be doing a lot more driving in the dark. This may not sound like a huge deal, but the hours spent driving in the dark could include rush hour on the way to work. You may be used to driving in the dark at night when traffic is light, but rush hour in the dark can be a lot more dangerous. On top of this, you'll also have to be on the lookout for pedestrians, bicyclists, and school children who may be harder to spot in the dark.

Foggy Roads

During the fall, fog is much more common. Don't be surprised if you're met with foggy roads through the season. The best way to prepare for this is by ensuring all of your car's lights work properly. This means your headlights, fog lights/low-beams, tail lights, brake lights, and reverse lights. When you're driving through dense fog, not only will your lights help you see, but they will also help other drivers and pedestrians see you approaching. Without functioning lights, this can all be much more dangerous. It's also recommended that you slow down as you drive and keep your eyes on the road ahead of you.
